Australia vs West Indies Live Cricket Score, 1st Test Day 2 at Perth
Day 1 report: Marnus Labuschagne hit a brilliant century Wednesday to give Australia early control of the first cricket test against the West Indies on the opening day at the Perth Stadium.
Australia was 293-2 in 90 overs at stumps after winning the toss with Labuschagne and Steve Smith unbeaten on 154 and 58 runs, respectively.
On a first-day pitch that was uncharacteristically soft, opener Usman Khawaja (65) and Labuschagne showed great discipline in compiling a 142-run second-wicket stand to set up the innings.
Labuschagne then followed that up with an unbroken 142-run stand with Smith after the pair resumed on 162-2 after the tea break. Following a slow start to the day when lunch was taken at 72-1 in 29 overs, the third-wicket pair scored freely against an attack that was tiring in hot conditions.
Smith played the most entertaining innings of the day and raced to his half century off 75 balls, hitting six boundaries.
Labuschagne has batted for 364 minutes and hit a six and 16 fours off 270 balls.
“Scoring a test hundred anytime is amazing,” Labuschagne said of his innings. “To be able to do it in the first test of the summer can hopefully set you up for this game but also the summer.
“Whenever you are not out on 150 the next stop is 200 … it’s up to me whether I can still do the process long enough. … If I do I’ll get there.”
After losing opening David Warner (5) as early as in the fourth over, Khawaja and Labuschagne weathered some testing and at times hostile pace bowling by the West Indies quartet over 3 ½ hours before Khawaja fell.
Khawaja nursed Labuschagne through the early stages of the innings, but once settled, Labuschagne dominated the partnership and outscored his senior partner.
Labuschagne cut fast bowler Jayden Seales through covers for his 13th boundary to bring up his eighth test ton in his 29th test and making the venue his favorite.
He has back-to-back centuries here as test cricket returned to Perth for the first time since December 2019 following the COVID-19 pandemic that forced the Western Australian borders to close for domestic and international visitors.
In the corresponding test three years ago, Labuschagne scored 143 and 50 against New Zealand in Australia’s 296-run win.
In fact, it was Labuschagne’s second century in the space of three innings following his 104 and 32 against Sri Lanka in Galle in July this year.
Labuschagne on 140 had a nervous moment seven overs before stumps when he cut fast bowler Jayden Seales with the second new ball, and the ball fell perilously short of a diving Tangenarine Chanderpaul at deep point.
Labuschagne was also dropped on 132 when wicketkeeper Joshua Da Silva failed to collect an edge off part-time spinner and captain Kraigg Brathwaite.
Khawaja, Australia’s prolific run-getter in 2022, fell to an outstanding delivery from Kyle Mayers and edged to wicketkeeper Joshua Da Silva after 3 ½ hours.
Khawaja, 35, took his run tally to 953 at an average of 95.3 in 2022, including four hundreds and as many fifties in just eight test matches. Playing in his 52nd test, Khawaja’s 149-ball innings was punctuated with five boundaries and a massive six as he stepped out and deposited offspinner Roston Chase over long-off.
Warner, who hooked Seales for the first boundary in the fourth over of the innings, immediately bottom edged a delivery to give the tourists an early breakthrough.
West Indies capped Chanderpaul, the son of former batting great Shivnarine, for his first test. Chanderpaul, 26, a lefthander like his father, will open the batting for the tourists.
West Indies allrounder Raymon Reifer has been ruled out of the series with a groin injury.
The West Indies players wore black armbands as a tribute to former test wicketkeeper David Murray, who died this past weekend at the age of 72.
It is the first test between the two sides in seven years. The second test, a day-night game, will be played in Adelaide beginning 8 December.

23:47 (IST)
Hello and welcome to our LIVE coverage of the FIFA World Cup Group C matches on matchday three of the group stage. Two matches are on the cards, with Argentina taking on Poland with sights on victory, which is crucial for them to advance for the knockouts. Saudi Arabia face Mexico in the other match, with both games kicking off simultaneously (10 pm local time in Qatar, 12.30 am IST).
Preview: Lionel Messi has already come to Argentina’s rescue at the World Cup. He might just have to do it all over again.
Another emotionally charged evening awaits Messi and the soccer-mad South American nation that worships him when Argentina meets Poland on Wednesday for a match with so much on the line.
For Messi, who is playing in likely his last World Cup. For Poland striker Robert Lewandowski, who might also be too old when soccer’s biggest tournament rolls around next in 2026.
And for the World Cup as a whole. Because who really doesn’t want to see Messi — one of the game’s greatest ever players — in the late stages of a tournament that is heating up so nicely.
There are multiple scenarios at play for the Group C finale. A win for the Argentines and they are sure to advance, likely as the group winners. A draw, and they can either finish in second place behind Poland or be squeezed out by either Saudi Arabia or Mexico, who are playing in a match taking place concurrently.
A loss? Well, that just doesn’t bear thinking about for anyone associated with Argentina. The team wouldn’t just be eliminated but humiliated. Messi might never be seen in the Albiceleste’s sky blue-and-white jersey again.
That scenario is too much for Argentina fans to take. It’s why tears were shed on the field, among the technical staff and among the fanbase after Messi scored the crucial second-half goal to set Argentina on its way to a 2-0 win over Mexico on Saturday.
That victory meant Argentina bounced back from its shocking 2-1 loss to Saudi Arabia in its opening match and now has a fighting chance to avoiding a first group-stage exit since 2002.
In the Group C’s other game that will take place simultaneously, Saudi Arabia face Mexico. Mexico have only earned one point from two games, and will need to beat Saudi Arabia, and hope Poland beat Argentina in order to have any hopes of advancing to the knockout stage.

Hello and welcome to our LIVE coverage of the third and final matchday in Group B of the FIFA World Cup. Group B consists of England, Wales, Iran and the United States of America, and all four teams can go through to the round of 16, but only two teams will eventually make it. Both matches in Qatar kick off at the same time (10 pm local time, 12.30 am IST). Here's the matchday three schedule of Group B:
Wales vs England at Al Rayyan Stadium
Iran vs USA at Al Thumama Stadium
Preview: England face Wales in a blockbuster FIFA World Cup Group B clash in Qatar’s Al Rayyan on Tuesday, knowing a win will all but secure themselves a place in the round of 16 phase.
England began the tournament in astounding fashion, thumping Iran 6-2, after which they played out a goalless draw against USA.
For Wales, however, things have not quite gone as per their plan. They endured a 1-1 draw against USA, in which Gareth Bale scored a penalty, and followed it up with a shock 0-2 defeat to Iran.
England (Four points) and Iran (three) occupy the top two spots in Group B after two games but all that could change during the course of 90 minutes. Iran, meanwhile, takes third placed USA (two points) in a winner-takes-all contest. Wales are currently fourth in the standings, with just one point, and their goal difference of -2 does not help their case either.

Anupam Kher slams IFFI jury head Nadav Lapid for calling The Kashmir Files 'vulgar': 'No matter how big the lie is...'
Israeli filmmaker and jury head of IFFI 2022, Nadav Lapid called Vivek Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files a ‘vulgar, propaganda’ film at the festival. Soon, after his speech went viral, we saw several fans and celebs slamming Nadav including the cast of the Vivek Agnihotri directorial.
Anupam Kher took to his Twitter account and wrote, “No matter how high the height of the lie is… It is always small in comparison to the truth.”

Darshan Kumar told E Times, “Everyone has their own individual opinions on anything they see and perceive. But one can’t deny the fact is that The Kashmir files is a film which has depicted the actual plight of Kashmiri pandit community, who are still fighting for justice against the brutal acts of terrorism.” He further added, “So this film is not on vulgarity but on reality.”

#Israeli filmmaker #NadavLapid has made a mockery of India’s fight against terrorism by calling #KashmirFiles a vulgar film .

Its a big blow to #IFFIGoa2022 ‘s credibility.

At the closing ceremony of IFFI, Nadav spoke about TKF and said, “All of us are disturbed. It felt to us like a ‘propaganda, vulgar movie’ inappropriate for an artistic competitive section of such a prestigious competition. I feel totally comfortable in sharing these feelings openly on stage since the spirit of the festival truly accepts critical discussion which is essential for art and life.”

Explained: How the Qatar World Cup is fueling misogyny around the world
One of the fundamental questions relating to the 2022 World Cup being hosted by Qatar is what message this gives to women and girls around the world. FIFA purports to uphold human rights. Its decision, in 2010, to award the hosting duties for the 2022 tournament to Qatar was not, however, without controversy.
In the 12 years since, these issues have only intensified. The treatment of migrant workers throughout the run-up to the event has garnered continued attention, as has the way LGBTQ+ rights and women’s rights are contravened by local law.
Misogyny, a sexist contempt and hatred of women, aims to keep women in a lower position than men within a patriarchal society. With discrimination against women enshrined in Qatari law — which, among other things does not criminalise domestic violence or sexual assault — misogyny is being beamed through televisions internationally, via the means of the 2022 men’s football World Cup.
Women in Qatar
Qatari law undergirds a profoundly patriarchal system. Sex outside of marriage is banned and Qatari women can only marry with the permission of a male guardian.
This controversial system of male guardianship also shapes women’s ability to study, drive and travel. Men have the unquestioned right to divorce, yet the grounds on which a woman can apply for divorce is limited. Wives are expected to obey husbands and their priority is seen to be home making.
Women cannot pass nationality on to their children, as men can, nor can they be their children’s primary carer in case of divorce or the death of their husband. Female beneficiaries only get half of any inheritance their brothers receive.
Women are asked to provide proof of marriage to receive sexual health and antenatal care. And they have to abide by a strict dress code.
Crucially, domestic violence and rape is not criminalised. While family law forbids moral or physical assault by husbands against wives, reporting domestic abuse or sexual violence is frowned upon as it is seen to bring shame upon the family.
Both the lack of prosecution for domestic violence and the victim blaming that surrounds sexual assault point towards possible risks for any women attending the World Cup.
Research shows that women face a heightened risk of sexual assault at any major sports tournament. It also shows, in the UK, the increase in domestic violence around World Cup matches and other big sporting tournaments.
Women at the World Cup
Reports have highlighted that this heightened risk has already resulted in many women not wanting to travel to Qatar for the World Cup. This, in itself, is discriminatory.
Those who do head for Doha are advised to follow a strict dress code. FIFA’s position on this is unclear. It states that people attending matches can wear what they want but also that they must respect local laws.
When in public, women in Qatar are expected to cover up. They must forgo tight clothing and not show their cleavage, knees or shoulders, and contravening these rules can result in prison or fines.
Official advice for travellers published by the UK government also covers strict laws against relationships outside of marriage. There are multiple cases of visitors being punished for being seen to be in contravention of these laws.
In June 2021, a Mexican world cup official reported that she was sexually assaulted. As a result of this, she was accused of extramarital sex, which is against Qatari laws, rather than being seen as a victim of sexual violence. This saw her threatened with imprisonment and 100 lashes.
And in 2020, 13 Australian women were forcibly removed, at gunpoint, from grounded Qatar Airways planes in Doha. They were then forced to undergo internal examinations, without their consent, as officials sought to find the mother of a newborn baby who had been found in the airport.
This subordination of women is in direct conflict with human rights laws. The United Nations and the European Convention on Human Rights categorically state that any compromise of women’s rights contravenes international human rights laws.
Significant progress has been made in terms of women’s rights worldwide in the last 25 years, not least in the sphere of football itself. Women’s football has gathered enormous traction of late, particularly with the success of the England women’s team winning the European cup.
By holding the men’s World Cup in Qatar, and thereby not sanctioning the lack of progress the country has made in terms of women’s rights, the impression given is that these rights are discretionary. Preventing discrimination and violence against women and girls, however, is never optional. This is not a cultural issue. It is a serious breach of human rights.![]()

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the second one-day international between New Zealand and India at Hamilton's Seddon Park. The Men in Blue will be hoping to bounce back from the seven-wicket loss at Eden Park in order to keep their hopes of winning both trophies in the ongoing tour alive.
Preview: Team India will be hoping to bounce back from the one-sided defeat in Auckland and keep the three-match series alive when they take on New Zealand in the second ODI in Hamilton on Sunday.
India suffered their first defeat of the tour of New Zealand, which is taking place right after the T20 World Cup, after winning the T20I series as the failed to defend a target of 307, thanks to the brilliance of Tom Latham and Black Caps skipper Kane Williamson.
Latham struck a career-best 145 not out, sharing an unconquered fourth-wicket stand worth 221 as the pair rescued the hosts from a spot of bother and took the momentum away from the Men in Blue, ensuring they got home comfortably in the end.
Earlier, stand-in skipper Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill shared an opening stand worth 124 while scoring 72 and 50 respectively while Shreyas Iyer took over once the set pair departed and stayed at the crease till the final over, top-scoring with a 76-ball 80.
The series opener also witnessed Umran Malik make his ODI debut. The Jammu and Kashmir pacer not only hit express speeds of 153kmph, but also opened his account with the ball, dismissing both Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell.
Squads:
New Zealand: Finn Allen, Devon Conway, Kane Williamson(c), Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham(w), Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner, Adam Milne, Matt Henry, Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson, Michael Bracewell, James Neesham
India: Shikhar Dhawan(c), Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant(w), Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal, Deepak Hooda, Kuldeep Yadav, Deepak Chahar

Ramiz Raja reportedly threatens PCB boycott of 2023 ODI World Cup if India fail to tour Pakistan for Asia Cup
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja has reportedly issued a stern warning to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), threatening to boycott the 2023 ODI World Cup if India failed to show up for the Asia Cup that is to be hosted in Pakistan next year.
BCCI secretary and Asian Cricket Council chief Jay Shah had earlier said that the Indian team would not be travelling to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, and that they would instead play at a neutral venue, ruffling feathers among the Pakistani cricketing community and causing the PCB to convene an emergency meeting with the ACC.
Raja, a former Pakistan batter who had taken up a career in commentary before being appointed the board chief, further threw shade at the Men in Blue, saying that the Babar Azam-led Pakistan team had defeated the “billion-dollar economy team” twice in less than a year.
“If Pakistan doesn’t take part in the World Cup scheduled in India next year, who will watch it? We have a clear stand: If the Indian team comes here then we will go for the World Cup. If they don’t come then they can play the World Cup without us.
“We will adopt an aggressive approach. Our team is showing performance. I’ve always said we need to improve the economy of Pakistan cricket, and that can only happen when we perform well. In the 2021 T20 World Cup, we beat India. We beat India in the T20 Asia Cup. In one year, the Pakistan cricket team defeated a billion-dollar economy team twice,” Raja was quoted as telling Urdu News.
The 2008 Asia Cup was the last multi-nation tournament that Pakistan had hosted, before the terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team the following year brought cricket in the South Asian nation to a screeching halt and forced the PCB to conduct its home games in the UAE.
The sport, however, has been limping back to normalcy in recent years with teams such as England, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa besides Pakistan’s Asian neighbours (except India) visiting the country for bilateral assignments, including Test cricket.

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the first ODI between India and New Zealand at the Eden Park in Auckland. Team India will be hoping to maintain their winning run in the tour of New Zealand, having earlier taken the T20I series 1-0.
Preview: Team India will begin its road to the 2023 World Cup on home soil when it takes on New Zealand in the first of three ODIs in Auckland on Friday.
Shikhar Dhawan once again returns as the stand-in captain of the Indian team in the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma and other seniors such as Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah. Dhawan takes over from all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who led the Men in Blue to a 1-0 series win in the T20I leg of their tour of New Zealand that took place right after the T20 World Cup in Australia.
Pandya has been rested from the ODIs along with the likes of veteran seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Mohammed Siraj and wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan while Shardul Thakur, Shahbaz Ahmed, Deepak Chahar and Kuldeep Sen have been included.
Kane Williamson, who recently returned to form after struggling with the bat for the most part during the T20 World Cup, continues to lead the Black Caps in the one-dayers after the T20I series. He led the Kiwis in the 2nd T20I, which Team India won by a comfortable margin of 65 runs, but missed out on the third game due to a medical appointment, leading to senior bowler Tim Southee taking over the reins.
Squads:
New Zealand: Finn Allen, Devon Conway(w), Kane Williamson(c), Glenn Phillips, Daryl Mitchell, Michael Bracewell, James Neesham, Mitchell Santner, Lockie Ferguson, Tim Southee, Adam Milne, Matt Henry, Tom Latham.
India: Shikhar Dhawan(c), Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson(w), Deepak Hooda, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Rishabh Pant.

IPL 2023: Mumbai Indians’ Auction Gamble Could Pay off as Jofra Archer Breathes Fire on Return
In the February mega auction ahead of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League, it was player No. 171 who caught the attention of everyone. England speedster Jofra Archer had registered himself for the auction but was only available for the 2023 and 2024 seasons due to an injury. The 27-year-old, who last played international cricket in the away series against India, underwent elbow surgery before a stress fracture on return to the County circuit ruled him out for the remainder of the English season back then.
All this, however, didn’t affect Mumbai Indians’ plans one bit as the franchise went hard for the speedster at the mega auctions. MI owner Akash Ambani didn’t put the pedal down and the war between Rajasthan Royals and MI took the bidding to Rs 4.6 crores in a few minutes. Both RR and MI had acquired 12 players each till then but Mumbai’s superior purse – Rs 23.70 crores – allowed them to go all out for the seamer. SRH joined the party briefly towards the fag end before MI sealed the deal at Rs 8 crores.
There were a lot of riders at that signing, but Mumbai were clear with its plans. The franchise put to work a long-term vision with a potentially explosive pairing of Jasprit Bumrah and Archer. Against popular perception, MI didn’t look to beef up their wallets ahead of the mini-auctions too as they retained the English seamer.

— Will Macpherson (@willis_macp) November 23, 2022
After a long absence, Archer is back in the middle and was seen in action during the fixture between England and England Lions in Abu Dhabi. According to a Telegraph report, Archer troubled England opener Zak Crawley and even hit him on the helmet.
MI’s pace battery
Still early days, but Archer’s return to competitive cricket will trigger a sigh of relief in the Mumbai Indians camp. The five-time IPL winners had also acquired Australia seamer Jason Behrendorff in a trade with RCB earlier this month and with Archer and Bumrah, the trio are set to make a very potent seam-bowling attack.
While many termed the Archer bid a gamble from Mumbai Indians, the franchise seemed clear with its thought process. And an injury was certainly not going to change their thought process.
“If someone would have told me that we would be walking back with Ishan Kishan and Jofra Archer, I wouldn’t have believed them,” Akash Ambani had said after the mega auction.
The focus could be on spin at mini-auction and Indian seamers
Archer’s return could also help MI get some answers and help them get a lot of clarity ahead of mini-auctions. A quick look at the retained players list is enough to understand what’s missing. The team could now well look to add some Indian seamers to the mix and look for quality spin options – something which was missing in the previous editions.
MI released Mayank Markande, Murugan Ashwin, and Sanjay Yadav and with only Hrithik Shokeen and Kumar Kartikeya in the ranks, the team is likely to go big on a spin in the upcoming auctions.

अपनी कप्तानी में टी-20 सीरीज जिताने के बाद क्या बोले हार्दिक पंड्या

Venkatesh Iyer interview: ‘I felt I could play the World Cup, but I wasn't there. That really hurt me’
When Hardik Pandya was recovering from a back injury, Venkatesh Iyer was tipped as the all-rounder to fill in Pandya’s shoes. After a stellar run with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the second half of IPL 2021, Iyer stormed his way into the Indian cricket team and played nine T20Is and two ODIs before he was dropped. Pandya’s emphatic return from injury sniffed out Iyer’s chances of a comeback and he was back to the domestic grind for his state, Madhya Pradesh.
The 27-year-old started the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with a bang – 62* and 6/20 vs Rajasthan – and followed it up with scores of 57, 42 and 28 in the next three games. Iyer was building momentum, but a freak injury came in the way of his good run. He had tripped and twisted his ankle and underwent surgery for the same.
The domestic season is all but over for Iyer, but he hopes to return to action early next year and wants to make a return to the Indian dressing room.
In an exclusive chat, where he is undergoing rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Iyer talks about his debut, juggling roles of an opener and finisher, working with Chandrakant Pandit and the disappointment of missing the bus for the recently concluded T20 World Cup.
Excerpts:
What happened to the ankle?
I just tripped off the staircase, and kind of twisted it (ankle). The entire socket came out… (Ankle) was in a bad position but the surgery went well and it should be good. The rehab is going well and step by step I have started to walk again. It should hopefully be fine in a few months.
You were fast-tracked into the Indian cricket team after one brilliant half of IPL, things moved quite quickly…
Whenever you get the chance to represent your country, I mean there’s nothing more special than that. I am really fortunate to have had that opportunity to do so. I also look at it as something that has given me a path to make it. It is now up to me again to get back on that path and get back into the Indian team. Really fortunate to have had the opportunity to make my debut for India.

How was it adjusting to different roles? Batting at top of the order for KKR and then finishing the innings for India?
I think the transition to the top-order was rather difficult. I have batted in the middle order almost throughout my life. I have batted a long time in the middle-order for the MP team. Middle-order is a place where I felt at home but the opening was actually tougher. But thanks to the domestic setup I got to experience what it was like to open and play on different surfaces. And once you are mentally prepared and mentally accept that you are going to open or play the role of a finisher, then the body just reacts to it.
But it’s a completely different ball game. Both are extremely different roles and require different skill sets…
Yes, it’s extremely different. The skillset for an opener and a finisher. But once you are clear in the head about where and how you need to bat, it becomes that much easier. And on top of that, when you have the backing of the coach and captain. And also when the role is communicated to you with utmost clarity, then it’s just you going out there and putting your best foot forward without worrying about the external noise. The way I was backed, the way things were communicated to me… I felt at home and felt that this was not new territory for me.
What was the communication like when you entered the team? Were you told about the finisher’s role?
When I got into the team, I looked at the team and saw three openers already there. Rohit bhai, KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan were already there. So I knew I am not going to open. And then when I met Rahul sir and he asked me how I used to approach the innings when I used to open and it was communicated to me that I will play the role of a finisher. Whenever someone gives you a new role, they also give you a cushion. That was done. Rohit bhai and Rahul sir told me that I would be given a string of games to try and execute that role. And once you have the captain and coach’s backing, the job becomes all the easier.

In the nine T20Is you played, you bowled in only four games. That too not the entire quota. Did you feel under-bowled during your India stint?
To be honest, I did feel a bit under-bowled. But when I think of it from the captain’s perspective, and I have led my state sides in the past, you know when the five bowlers are doing the job then it is not really necessary to use the sixth bowling option. It’s a great cushion to have but when the five bowlers are doing the job then the captain need not look at the sixth bowling option. And that’s what Rohit bhai did. From an individual point of view, I would love to bat 20 overs and bowl my four overs but that really is not possible.
Disappointed with the abrupt end to your stint with Team India?
Who doesn’t want to have a long run with the Indian team? Even though I wanted that, I clearly understood the way Hardik bhai came back. What he did was really amazing. Every team wants to pick the best team for the World Cup. I would have wanted to be there, but again it’s not in my hands. I have always looked at cricket as an opportunity. If am not playing with the Indian cricket team, it’s my opportunity to play in the IPL or represent my state side in domestic competitions. My job is to only do my process right and not worry about selection. I might have been in the team for the T20s and ODIs going on, but I, unfortunately, sustained an injury. I will ensure that when I get to play, I will give my best and not worry about anything else.
Was the management in touch with you during your time away from the team? What was the equation like?
I was in touch with a lot of players. I knew what I had to do to get back into the team. May it be batting, bowling or fielding – everything. (Being) better never stops. I was told to be ready. And as I told you, our set-up is so good that if not India, then IPL, if not IPL, then domestic competitions, if not them – then the local leagues. That is never going to end. And I feel very lucky to operate that way.
Is Venkatesh Iyer mentally and technically ready to continue juggling the role of finisher and opener for his country and IPL team?
Definitely! As a professional cricketer, you always have to be flexible and I always look at pressure and such situations as privileges. So many people in the country and I’m getting to do a particular thing. That is something which is a privilege for me. As a player, you just want to go out there and contribute for your side. That’s all. Be it finishing, be it opening the innings. Be it bowling, fielding or anything. I try and accept it in my mind first. If you accept it in the mind, then the body just follows. The problem happens when you are not accepting it in the first place. I have always accepted the fact that I can be floated up and down the order at any time. In this Mushtaq Ali Trophy, I played three games and batted at three different positions – No.3 in one, No.4 in one and No.5 in one.
Was it a conscious call to try various things during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy? Like bat at different positions or did it kind of happen because of the game situation and demands?
A bit of both to be honest. Before the tournament only, Chandu (Chandrakant Pandit) sir spoke to me about showing to the world how versatile I can be while batting in different positions. Had I not injured my leg, I was going to open in the next game. That was really great and I felt good. Was scoring in all games. That shows that I can bat in different positions. And see performances don’t really matter as even If I hadn’t scored in those games, but if I had made the effort to walk in and perform a particular role, that itself is a victory for me.

How excited are you to reunite with Chandrakant Pandit at KKR now?
It’s just going to be a continuation of what’s going on right now. Chandu sir is our domestic coach, he has worked on all aspects of our game. Right from aspects of fielding to batting technique. I am extremely happy that someone of his stature, who has dominated domestic cricket for such a long time is finally getting to showcase his skills on the IPL level. I am really excited from that point of view and just like everyone else, I am excited about how he will take charge of KKR. To be honest, I really can’t wait for the IPL.
Any time frame you are looking at for a return to action?
I am not really looking at a time frame because it’s the left leg and it’s going to bear 10-15 times my body weight when I bowl. I am extremely fortunate to get the treatment and facilities here at the NCA. They haven’t fixed a timeline because doing that would add pressure on me. I am really hopeful about getting back on the field sometime in January. But I feel February could be the right time to start.
Mission 2024 has well and truly begun for the Indian cricket team. Have you made it your goal/target to return to cricket?
Absolutely not. Right now, my only focus is to go to the gym and do whatever exercises I am told. I don’t look at things too far ahead. When I was called into the Indian cricket team, I felt I could play in the World Cup and then I was not there. That really hurt me. I don’t want to put myself in a position to think about something which is really far away from me. If things are to happen, they will happen. The only thing in my hands is to stick to the process, get better every day and leave the rest to god.

India vs New Zealand: Kane Williamson to miss third T20I; Mark Chapman called in
New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson will miss the upcoming third T20I against India due to a medical appointment. Experienced pacer Tim Southee will captain New Zealand in the final game of the series at Napier. Mark Chapman has been called into the squad as a replacement for Kane Williamson.
Williamson top scored for the hosts with a 61-run knock off 52 balls in their 65-run defeat to India in the second T20I at Mount Maunganui on Sunday. He will rejoin the team for the ODI series against India which begins on 25 November.
New Zealand coach Gary Stead said the medical appointment had nothing to do with Williamson’s historic elbow complaint.
“Kane’s been trying to get this booked in for a while now, but unfortunately it hasn’t been able to fit into our schedule.” Stead said.
“The health and well-being of our players and staff is paramount, and we look forward to seeing him in Auckland.”
Stead said Chapman was excited to be back with the squad after featuring in the recent T20 World Cup and Tri Series in Christchurch.
“He’s a quality player who offers good versatility in the order.”
India currently lead the three-match T20I series 1-0. The first game was washed out due to rain.

India vs New Zealand 2nd T20I weather update: Rain threat looms large over Bay Oval, another washout on cards
Team India, who are seeking some game time, are likely to face a tough challenge from New Zealand when both sides lock horns in the second T20I of the three-match series on Sunday at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.
Notably, the series opener in Wellington was washed out due to continuous rain and the Indian players must be itching to get onto the park which, inarguably, has the most scenic backdrop. However, the bad news for the fans and the players is that the forecast for the second match doesn’t look promising either.
The latest weather report suggests dark clouds over Bay Oval during the game time. There is a 90% chance of rain during the match, while the temperature on Sunday will hover in the range of 15-18 degrees Celsius with 80-85% humidity.
But, there is still a slight chance of India vs New Zealand second T20I going ahead as the probability of precipitation is expected decrease in the evening.

The match will begin at 7:30 PM local time (12 PM IST).
Interestingly, the team batting first has won all T20I matches at the Bay Oval but with rain likely to reduce the overs, the toss-winning captain will most likely opt to bowl first.

India vs New Zealand Live Streaming 2022: How to watch T20I IND vs NZ live cricket match
The 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia may have got over just a few days, but preparations and planning are underway in full swing for the next edition of the tournament in 2024, to be hosted by West Indies and the United States of America.
Just days after their semi-final exit from the T20 World Cup, some Team India members like Suryakumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant, who were part of the T20 World Cup campaign, touched down in New Zealand’s Wellington ahead of a limited-overs series against the Black Caps.
In Kiwiland, India will play three T20Is and as many ODIs over the next two weeks.
Hardik Pandya, who has been considered by many as an able future skipper, will captain the Men in Blue in the T20I series, while Shikhar Dhawan will lead the side in the ODIs.
Veterans like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been rested for this tour following a hectic cricketing season, so this series will provide an opportunity for youngsters to step up their game.

Other notable youngsters in the batting department include Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan. Suryakumar Yadav, or SKY as he is affectionately called by fans and experts alike, will look to carry on his positive form from the T20 World Cup.
SKY scored 239 runs from six T20 World Cup matches, registering three half-centuries. He ended up as the tournament’s third highest run-getter, behind Virat Kohli and Netherlands’ Max ODowd.
India’s bowling department is a mix of experience and youth. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the most experienced bowler in the side, followed by the duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav.
Young Arshdeep Singh has been a promising sign for Team India, and he retains his place in the squad, while Umran Malik, synonymous for his fiery pace, has also been included.
VVS Laxman will fill in as coach for the series, replacing Rahul Dravid, who has also been given a break after the T20 World Cup.
