We look at those two medals and the remaining top three moments from the day.
Jeremy Lalrinnunga proudly sings the national anthem after winning second gold medal
Jeremy Lalrinnunga won India’s second gold medal and fifth overall in the 67kg weightlifting final in the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Lalrinnunga, just 19 years old, made a total lift of 300kg and registered a Commonwealth Games record to his name.

Indian weightlifter Achinta Sheuli won the gold medal at the men’s 73kg weightlifting competition at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham on Sunday. Smriti Mandhana's classic 63 not out in Indi's win over Pakistan
Smirit Mandhana was absolutely on fire, something that is a little to visualise, thanks to her languid style. But even as Pakistan tried to set a trap on the off-side, her stronger suit, the left-hander found her way through the on-side and straight initially, and then scored at will to script a facile win in 11.4 overs.

KL Rahul clarifies fitness concerns: 'Aim to recover as quickly as possible and be available for selection'
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squad for the three ODIs against Zimbabwe away from home. The side that will be led by Shikhar Dhawan had a few prominent names such as Deepak Chahar and Washington Sundar making a comeback while Rahul Tripathi has also been called-up.
On the other hand, the right-handed batter KL Rahul wasn't included in the squad for the bilateral series that begins on 18th August, 2022 in Harare. Rahul's omission raised some eyebrows and it was further reported that the batter has been left out due to injury.
But, KL has now made the clarification in a social media post. "I wanted to clarify a couple of things about my health and fitness. My surgery in June was successful and I had begun training with the hope of returning to national duty for the team's tour to West Indies. Unfortunately, as I was nearing a return to full fitness, I tested positive for COVID-19. This naturally pushes things back by a couple of weeks, but I aim to recover as quickly as possible, and be available for selection as soon as I can," he wrote.
"To represent the national team is the highest honour, and I cannot wait to get out there back in blue," he added.

Commonwealth Games: Strong start for Indian hockey, badminton and table tennis teams; 14-year-old Anahat Singh wins
In a largely happy day for the Indian contingent at the Commonwealth Games, the opening day in Birmingham saw the Indian women's hockey team and badminton mixed team stroll to easy victories in their opening group matches on Saturday.
The day also saw history as India's youngest team member Anahat Singh won her opening round singles match against St Vincent and Grenadines Jada Ross 11-5, 11-2, 11-0. Another Indian squash player in action, Abhay Singh cruised past Joe Chapman in the Round of 64 as he won 11-5, 11-5, 11-5.
A brace from Gurjit Kaur ensured the hockey eves defeated minnows Ghana 5-0 in Pool A game. The other goal scorers on the day were Neha Goyal, Sangita Kumari, and Salima Tete.
Meanwhile, PV Sindh-led badminton mixed team didn't drop a single game to beat lowly Pakistan 5-0 in Group 1 encounter. Apart from PV Sindhu, the mixed team of Ashwini Ponnappa/B Sumeeth Reddy, the men's doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty, the women's doubles pair of Gayatri Gopichand/Treesa Jolly, and men's singles star Kidambi Srikanth gave Pakistan very little to rejoice about on the day.
Boxing: Shiva Thapa beats Pakistan's Suleman Baloch
Experienced boxer Shiva Thapa was too much to handle for young Pakistani Suleman Baloch as the Indian boxer thrashed Baloch by a unanimous verdict to reach the last 16 of the 63.5kg.
Speaking after the bout, five-time Asian Champion Thapa said he is motivated to win his first CWG medal. "Definitely a CWG medal motivates me a lot. It's a very individual thing, sometimes pressure works and then you have the responsibility," Thapa said. "We are all elite athletes here, representing our country. Everyone is hoping to win a gold medal here.
Cricket: Indian spinners disappoint in loss to Australia despite Renuka's dream spell
India women's cricket team conceded a match against the mighty Australians from a winning position despite reducing their rivals to 49/5 at one stage while defending 155. It was pacer Renuka Singh's dream spell of 4/18 that gave India the dream start while defending, before Ashley Gardner's 52 not out spoilt India's party.
Gardner was well backed by Grace Harris, who scored a 37 to add 51 runs for the sixth wicket and put Australia back in the chase. Indian spinners came under heavy criticism as Radha Yadav (0/42) and Rajeshwari Gayakwad (0/24 in 2 overs) conceded 66 runs in 6 overs.
Earlier skipper Harmanpreet Kaur's 52 and opener Shafali Verma's 48 took India to 154/8.
Table Tennis: Men's and women's teams reach quarter-finals
Indian table tennis men's and women's teams won their first two knockout stage matches to reach the quarter-finals in the respective category on Friday. In the first round of the day, the women's team saw star paddler Manika outplay Musfiquh Kalam 11-5, 11-3, 11-2 after doubles pair of Sreeja Akula, Reeth Rishya defeated South African pair of Lailaa Edwards, and Danisha Patel 11-7, 11-7, 11-5
The Indians similarly dominated the singles fixtures. Batra outplayed Musfiquh Kalam 11-5, 11-3, 11-2 to send out a warning to her rivals in the field, while Akula produced a similar effort against Patel, producing a 11-5, 11-3, 11-6 victory to help the Indian team clinch the rubber.
In the deciding men's singles game, Akula came back to defeat Danisha 11-5, 11-3, 11-6 to seal the round.
In the men's group 3 encounter against minnows Barbados, doubles pair, Harmeet Desai and G Sathiyan, defeated Kevin Farley and Tyrese Knight 11-9, 11-9, 11-4. Veteran Kamal was also in a hurry as he beat Ramon Maxwell 11-5, 11-3, 11-3 in less than 15 minutes.
Sathiyan round of the tie by disposing off Tyrese Knight 11-4, 11-4, 11-5.
Cycling: Indian cyclists fail to qualify for finals in three team events
Indian cycling's Commonwealth Games campaign began on a disappointing note with all three teams failing to make the finals on Friday. The Indian men's sprint team of Ronaldo Laitonjam, Y Rojit Singh, David Beckham Elkatohchoongo could not make it to the medal round, finishing sixth in the qualification with a total time of 44.702 seconds at the Lee Valley VeloPark.
They were 2.480 seconds behind the first place finishers Australia. The fastest two teams will race for gold while the third and fourth finishers in the qualifying round compete for bronze.
The women's sprint team also did not do better than the men's side as it ended at seventh in the qualifying round with a total time of 51.433. The Indian team, comprising Shushikala Agashe, Triyasha Paul, and Mayuri Lute, was 3.592 seconds more than the New Zealand team, which clocked 47.841 seconds.
Then, the Indian men's 4000m pursuit team finished sixth and last in the qualification with a total time of 4:12.865 which was 23.044 second more than the leader New Zealand. The Indian men's 4000m pursuit team comprises Venkappa Kengalagutti, Dinesh Kumar and Vishavjeet Singh.
Swimming: Srihari Natarajan moves to semis, Sajan Prakash and Kushagra crash out
Indian swimmer Srihari Nataraj clocked 54.68s to qualify for the semi-finals of the men's 100m backstroke event. The 21-year-old from Bengaluru was the third fastest swimmer in his heat and fifth fastest overall.
If he had clocked his personal best of 53.77s he would have topped the heats. The fastest swimmer in the field was South Africa's Pieter Coetze who clocked 53.91.
However, seasoned Sajan Prakash and debutant Kushagra Rawat failed to advance to the semi-final of their events respectively. Prakash finished eighth in the heats with a timing of 25.01 men's 50m butterfly event. The best 16 athletes progressed to the semis.
Kushagra too finished last in the men's 400m freestyle event as he stopped the clock at 3:57.45s. Both Prakash and Kushagra are still alive in the competition as they will compete in other events.
Lawn Ball: No victories for Indian teams

England vs South Africa live score: Second T20 International
Toss | England have won the toss and chose to field first.
Playing XI:
South Africa: Quinton de Kock(w), Reeza Hendricks, Rilee Rossouw, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller(c), Tristan Stubbs, Andile Phehlukwayo, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Tabraiz Shamsi
England: Jason Roy, Jos Buttler(w/c), Dawid Malan, Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali, Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, Chris Jordan, Adil Rashid, Richard Gleeson, Reece Topley
England will look to continue their dominance over the Proteas in T20Is as the second T20I kick starts at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. The first match was a batting-heavy match as sixes were seen raining all over the ground.
The pitch at the Sophia Gardens is expected to be a bit sticky as usual. This might result in batters struggling to score freely. But the manner in which batters have adapted to the T20I format, no wicket seems improbable for a high-scoring match.
The Proteas will look to level the series to go in the third match with some purpose and context rather than play just for pride.
The two teams just met yesterday, and within 24 hours, they will lock horns again at a new venue. England have won four of the last five encounters between the two sides. However, overall South Africa is not far behind, with 10 wins against England’s 12.
It will be worthwhile to see if it is a cracker of a contest or if one of the teams surrender quite early.

Commonwealth Games: COVID-19 positive rate low till now, nothing to worry according to Medical Advisor
Birmingham: About a dozen athletes are expected to test positive for COVID-19 on a daily basis at the Games Village but that's not very alarming, assured Commonwealth Games medical advisor Dr Peter Harcourt.
More than 5000 athletes from 72 nations and territories will compete in the Games spread over 11 days with the opening ceremony scheduled for Thursday.
"About a dozen a day are returning positive but 1200-1400 athletes go through COVID-19 testing process every day. So it gives you an idea, it's not a huge number, Dr. Harcourt told a media conference here.
Hopeful of a smooth conduct of the event, he said the organising committee has put their best foot forward in creating a safe environment.
"Things that we have got in place is there's an RT-PCR test for individual travel to Birmingham and then there is an RT-PCR test on arrival. If there's a history of COVID, then the vaccination status of COVID would be scanned, so that we can make a good clear understanding of individuals should they have a positive test."
"It's a very comprehensive measure and it's got good clinical support," he assured.
Having dealt with COVID-19 cases, he further added: "About a lot of these things, we have got a fair degree of having dealt with it. I'm confident we will be on top of it and we will have successful Games and mini-issues," he added.

Formula 2: Jehan Daruvala finishes seventh in feature race of French Grand Prix after second spot in sprint race
Le Castellet: Indian racer Jehan Daruvala started the 'feature race' from 10th on the grid but fought his way up to the seventh spot in Formula 2 French Grand Prix on Sunday.
Earlier on Saturday, Jehan secured his sixth podium of the season, finishing second in the French round of the Formula 2 championship here. It was his fifth second-place finish this season.
The 23-year-old, who races for Italian team Prema, was robbed of a potential fourth F2 victory by a post-race penalty in the last round in Austria.
"It's good to be back on the podium what happened in Silverstone and Austria. We were struggling with pace down the straights but had some good battles to finish second," Jehan said.
"We would have finished even higher in the feature race with our strategy to run a long first stint but we gambled on a safety car and stayed out a bit longer than ideal. Other than that, it was a solid weekend for us. We still have some areas to work on and I'm confident we'll come back stronger next weekend in Hungary," the 23-year-old added.
Jehan started Saturday's 'sprint race' from the pole position and after a lightning start led into the first corner. He comfortably held on to his own at the front when an incident involving three cars brought out the safety car.
The 23-year-old Mumbai-based driver timed the restart to perfection, that allowed him to open up a small gap with second-placed Liam Lawson but the latter's superior straight-line speed allowed him to close in.
Lawson used his car's superior speed down the straights to get past Jehan and the former swept around the outside into turn one. Jehan held his line but the pair touched, which opened up a tear on his front tyre, but he didn't suffer a puncture.
A few laps later, Marcus Armstrong attempted to pass Jehan for second at the same corner but on the inside. They made contact but Jehan, forced wide across the chicane, and kept his position.
Armstrong was handed a five-second penalty for forcing Jehan off the track. The Red Bull-backed racer, who earlier this week completed a second Formula One test with McLaren, will now go to Hungary.

Hope shimmied down the track off Chahal’s delivery and unleashed it over the bowler’s head to hit the maximum and reach the milestone, much to the home crowd’s enthusiastic joy.
His century, that came in 125 balls, came just two days after he was dismissed for just seven in the first ODI. With the century, 28-year-old Hope joined an elite list, becoming the tenth batter to hit a hundred in his 100th ODI. Gordon Greenidge, Chris Cairns, Mohammad Yousuf, Kumar Sangakkara, Chris Gayle, Marcus Trescothick, Ramnaresh Sarwan, David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan are the other batters to have scored tons in their 100th ODIs.
Hope, who made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in 2016, has amassed 4193 runs in the 50-over format for the Windies so far.
Hope was eventually dismissed by Shardul Thakur for 115 in the 49th over, as the West Indies finished their innings at 311/6 from 50 overs.
India, led by Shikhar Dhawan, won the first ODI by three runs on Friday and are currently leading the series 1-0. West Indies would hope to level the series with an inspired performance on Sunday. The third ODI will be played in Port of Spain on Wednesday (27 July).

Neeraj Chopra creates history with silver medal at World Athletics Championships 2022
Star Indian Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra won a Silver medal at the World Athletics Championship in Oregon on Saturday.
The Tokyo Olympics Gold medallist recorded a throw of 88.13m in his fourth attempt to claim the second spot.
Chopra is the first Indian to win a silver medal at World Athletics Championships and only the second medallist from the country after Anju Bobby George in 2003.

Chopra was trailing Grenada's Anderson Peters at the halfway stage after three attempts as the latter had recorded a 90.21m throw in his first attempt itself. However, the Indian held his nerves and made a stupendous throw in his fourth attempt.
While Peters finished first with a throw of 90.21m, Czech Republic's Jakub Vadlejch finished third with a throw of 88.09m, whiskers behind Chopra.

Toss update: Ireland won the toss and opted to bat in the third and final T20I against New Zealand in Belfast on Friday.
The Black Caps are unbeaten in their trip to Ireland, having earlier clinched the ODI series 3-0 in Dublin. The caravan then moved to Belfast, where the Kiwis maintained their winning momentum with victories in the first two T20Is by sizeable margins (31 runs and 88 runs respectively).
Ireland will look to close this limited-overs series with a victory, but more importantly, the hosts would be hoping for a much improved show from their batters. Chasing a target of 180 in the second T20I, Ireland were bundled out for just 91, with Mark Adair top-scoring with 27 runs. Ish Sodhi and Michael Bracewell had taken three wickets each.

India defeated England 2-1 in the three-match ODI series after winning the deciding clash in Manchester on Sunday. Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya played a major role in India's 5-wicket victory against the English side.
The two first helped India come out of a tricky situation after the visitors were reduced to 72/4 and stitched a partnership of 133 runs for the fifth wicket. While Pandya was out for a 55-ball 71, Pant remained unbeaten at 125 off 113 to see the side home.
Captain Rohit Sharma expressed delight on the side's win. "Very pleased. Came here, wanted to achieve something as a group in white ball. We were here last time and were beaten, I remember that. Not an easy place to come and win games. It was a good pitch, but we do understand it's not going to be easy if we lose wickets upfront. Positive side of it, these guys haven't batted much in the middle overs. Today we got to see that with Hardik and Rishabh. At no point we felt they were panicking. They backed themselves and played cricketing shots. He's a critical member for us (Chahal). Has got so much experience bowling in all formats. Pretty pleased with how he's come back after the WC. Hardik as well," Rohit said at the post-match presentation.
Pandya also scalped a four-wicket haul and peppered the batters with short balls. Mentioning about the same the Indian skipper lauded the all-rounder for his tactics.
"One side boundary was long, he kept bowling the bouncers and got rewards for it."
India's top-order comprising of Rohit himself, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli didn't really get runs but the right-handed batsman said that he isn't really worried about the form.
"Not really (Worried about top-order?). To be honest, the wicket didn't have much. We played some not so good shots. Still back those guys to come out good. One of those series where top order hasn't come to the party. Have got nothing more to say because I know the quality they bring to the team. We've got some solid guys sitting on the bench who've been waiting to get a game. Want to create that bench strength. Injuries are bound to happen, have to manage workload, so need to build bench strength. Have got some solid guys who will get their opportunity in West Indies," he added.
India had earlier won the T20I series as well while the Test series ended in a 2-2 draw.

India vs England: 'We were short of runs', admits captain Jos Buttler after hosts' ODI series defeat
England limited-overs skipper Jos Buttler on Sunday admitted that his team were short of runs after their five-wicket defeat to India in the third and final ODI at Old Trafford. Rishabh Pant’s heroics and Hardik Pandya’s all-round show helped India overcome their top-order troubles to beat England and clinch the ODI series 2-1.
Earlier, Buttler’s 60 and Jason Roy’s 41 led England to 259 inside 46 overs, after being put to bat by India.
“I thought we were short (of runs). Needed a good start which we got actually (with the ball). Throughout the whole summer so far we haven't batted our best,” Buttler said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
Reece Topley scalped three wickets in the decider, finishing with figures of 3/35, and Buttler said Topley was brilliant for England.
“He (Topley) has been brilliant for us, put in a man of the match performance in the T20s as well. He was just creaking a bit, it's been a tough schedule, and will probably have to look after him (Topley bowling 7 overs)”, Buttler said.
The 31-year-old Englishman admitted that he found captaincy ‘absolutely fine’. On 1 July, Buttler was announced as England’s white-ball captain following Eoin Morgan’s retirement.
“I've found it (captaincy) absolutely fine to be honest. Missed a chance but don't think it's got anything to do with captaincy. I'm an experienced cricketer but a young captain,” continued Buttler.
Adil Rashid missed the series against India after being granted permission to make the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, but the spinner has been named in England’s ODI squad for the home series against South Africa, which starts on Tuesday. Buttler termed Rashid as England’s ‘most important player’ and he is ready to welcome Rashid back into the side.
“Rash (Rashid) has probably been the most important player in our team for a long time. Look forward to welcome him back,” said Buttler.

India vs England 3rd ODI stat attack: Pandya joins elite all-rounder club, Pant's maiden ton and more
Hardik Pandya's all-round effort and Rishabh Pant's maiden ODI century led India to a five-wicket and a 2-1 series victory against England in the third One-Dayer in Manchester on Sunday.
Pandya was the star with the ball in the first innings as his 4/24 limited England to 259 all out in 45.5 overs after the hosts were sent into bat first. Spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who picked four wickets in the second ODI, also chipped in with a spell of 3/60. For England, Skipper Jos Buttler finally found some form with the bat as he top-scored with 60 runs while opener Jason Roy contributed 41.
Chasing the total, India again suffered a top-order collapse at 38/3 by the beginning of the ninth over. The team's captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli (17 runs each) and Shikhar Dhawan (1) disappointed again with dismal returns. Suryakumar Yadav also had an unforgettable outing with just 16 runs against his name. The Indian heavyweight batting failure was triggered by last-match star Reece Topley again, who finished with impressive figures of 3/35.
Pant (125 not out) and Pandya (71) brought India back on track and eventually to a comfortable win by adding 133 runs for the fifth wicket.
The series decider also saw plenty of records being made on the day and we take a glance at them:
- Rishabh Pant became the third designated Indian wicket-keeper to score a hundred outside Asia in ODIs. Earlier, it was Rahul Dravid's 145 against Sri Lanka in Taunton in 1999 and KL Rahul 112 against New Zealand in 2020.
- Pant also waited for 26 games before he slammed his maiden ODI century.
- The three-match series also saw none of the sides play their entire quota of fifty overs.
- Hardik Pandya became the fifth Indian to take four wickets and hit a half-century in the same ODI match. The first Indian to do so was Krishnamachari Srikkanth, who scored 70 and took 5/27 against New Zealand in 1988. The other three Indians to achieve the feat were Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh. The latter two also did it twice.
- Hardik Pandya also became the first Indian to achieve the unique double in all three formats of the game. Uniquely it all came against England. In Tests, it was 52 not out and 5/28 in Nottingham in 2018. And in Southampton earlier during the T20 series when he scored 51 and picked 4/33. He also became the second player overall to achieve the record behind Pakistan's Mohammad Hafeez.
- This was the first instance in Virat Kohli's ODI career, where he hasn't scored above 20 in five consecutive innings. His sequence in the last five ODIs are 8, 18, 0, 16, 17
- This is also the first time since 2015 World Cup that England has failed to score beyond 300 in an ODI series when they have batted at least once in the first innings.
- This is the seventh successive ODI where India have bowled out their opponent.
