Paris: Novak Djokovic renews his 16-year rivalry with Rafael Nadal at the French Open on Tuesday with a semi-final spot at stake and where victory for the world number one could end the 13-time champion's Roland Garros career.

Nadal, who turns 36 on Friday, puts his record of 109 wins and just three losses in Paris since his title-winning debut in 2005 on the line against the defending champion.

The Spaniard was taken to five sets for only the third time at the tournament by 21-year-old Felix Auger-Aliassime in the fourth round.

In the immediate aftermath of that victory, Nadal admitted that not only was this year's French Open at stake but possibly his entire playing future.

Overall, Djokovic leads Nadal 30-28 since their first career meeting at the 2006 French Open.

Nadal has a 19-8 edge on clay and has won seven of the pair's nine meetings in Paris.

Djokovic, however, came out on top in the semi-finals at Roland Garros in 2021 on his way to a second title.

Djokovic has reached the last eight with ease. He has won 22 sets in a row, a run stretching back to his Italian Open triumph in Rome.

While Djokovic, Nadal, Alexander Zverev and slain Carlos Alcaraz battle in the top of the draw, the bottom section has been blown wide open by the fourth-round exits of second-ranked Daniil Medvedev and number four Stefanos Tsitsipas, the 2021 runner-up.

As a result, one of Holger Rune, Casper Ruud, Andrey Rublev or 2014 US Open champion Marin Cilic will make Sunday's final.

For a change, top togs Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings found themselves at the bottom of the table, with two relatively unfancied sides in Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals locking horns in the final, and debutants Gujarat walking away with the trophy in the end in Hardik Pandya’s first major captaincy assignment. The title victory will surely have made Gujarat a force to be reckoned with in the league, as well as Pandya one to watch out for as far as Rohit Sharma’s successor as India captain’s concerned.

What were the things we missed out on and how we can get better. Everyone chipped in, from the support staff to the logistics team. I count myself lucky for having won the IPL five times. This is going to be a special one because we spoke about creating a legacy.

I think the role was completely different (for me) this year especially with the way Jos went about his business. It was a good season for me. As we keep growing and keep getting better, we can improve a lot more. Congratulations to Gujarat Titans, I think they deserved to win tonight.

IPL 2022 awards: Jos Buttler wins the Orange Cap; Yuzvendra Chahal bags Purple Cap

Gujarat Titans were crowned the new champions of the Indian Premier League after they defeated Rajasthan Royals in the final of 2022 edition in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

Chasing a target of 131, the Titans lost a couple of early wickets but captain Hardik Pandya and opener Shubman Gill steadied the ship for the side with a 63-run stand for the third wicket. The Gujarat team then suffered a hiccup when Pandya was caught by Jaiswal in the slips off Yuzvendra Chahal for 34 off 30.

But David Miller and Gill made sure that there were no further fall of wickets. Miller continued his domination while Gill held the fort at the other end as the two batters chipped in with an unbeaten partnership of 47 runs for the fourth wicket.

Gill remained unbeaten at 45 off 43 while Miller struck 32* off 19.

Earlier, in the day, the Gujarat bowlers and especially Hardik Pandya thoroughly dominated the RR batters. The skipper returned with figures of 3/17 in 4 overs as the Royals were restricted to 130/9 in 20 overs.

We now take a look at the award winners from the tournament.

1) Jos Buttler takes away the orange cap after he scored 863 runs in 17 matches at an average of 57.33. The right-handed batter also struck four centuries in the season.

2) RR's Yuzvendra Chahal shown brilliance with the ball throughout the tournament as was awarded with the purple cap. Chahal scalped 27 wickets in 17 matches at an economy rate of 7/75 which also included a four-fer and a five-wicket haul.

3) Jos Buttler is the Most Valuable Player of IPL 2022. In 17 matches, he had 387.5 points.

4) GT's Lockie Ferguson bowled the fastest ball of the tournament after he clocked 157.3 kmph against RR in the final match.

Rajasthan Royals' opener Jos Buttler was on song against the Royal Challengers Bangalore during the Qualifier 2 match in Ahmedabad on Friday after he notched up fourth ton of the season, equalling Virat Kohli's record who had achieved the feat in 2016 edition.

After captain Sanju Samson won the toss, the Rajasthan Royals opted to bowl and their pace battery, especially Prasidh Krishna and Obed McCoy, responded perfectly. The two bowlers scalped three wickets apiece as RR restricted RCB to 157/8 in 20 overs. Rajat Patidar continued his sublime form and backed up his ton against the LSG in the Eliminator with a fine fifty against Bangalore.

However, the highlight of the game was a batting masterclass from Buttler who dominated from the word go. The right-handed batsman was at his belligerent best as he smashed boundaries with ease and put up a 61-run stand with Yashasvi Jaiswal for the first wicket.

Just one more match left in the 15th iteration of the league, and the two of the most consistent sides this season lock horns in the summit clash in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
