ISL 2021-22: SC East Bengal and NorthEast United conclude clash with a draw

Goa: NorthEast United played a 1-1 draw in their final league game of the season against fellow strugglers SC East Bengal in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) at the Tilak Maidan Stadium.  Goals from Marco Sahanek and Antonio Perosevic managed to split the points either way as Khalid Jamil’s men ended the season with only three wins. As for SC East Bengal, their winless run extended to seven matches.

Marco Sahanek (45+1’) scored his first goal for NEUFC to give them the lead in the first half but the equaliser came through Antonio Perosevic (55’ P) who scored from a precise penalty.

Two good chances fell SCEB’s way in the early stages with Lalrinliana Hnamte making the goalkeeper pull off a good save and Mahesh Naorem Singh hitting the crossbar from long-range. NEUFC survived another scare after the half-hour mark as a volley by Antonio Perosevic missed the target by a whisker.

However, it was the Highlanders that took the lead just a minute before the halftime whistle. A header from Deshorn Brown hit the left post and fell kindly to Marco Sahanek who made no mistake and buried his left-footed shot into the bottom-right corner. Thanks to that goal, NEUFC went into the break with their noses in front.

The second half did not begin according to plan for Khalid Jamil and co as Patrick Flottmann’s push on Fran Sota during an aerial battle was deemed as a foul in the box, leading to a penalty. Perosevic scored the equaliser from the penalty spot, after sending Mirshad Michu towards the wrong way.

Marcelinho came off the bench for NEUFC to inject some energy in the final third and combined with Suhair but the latter’s volley was expertly punched away by Sankar Roy in goal. Four minutes were added for stoppages but neither team had the cutting edge to score the winner in the end. With nothing to separate the teams, the game ended in a draw, much to the disappointment for both sets of players.

SC East Bengal will pull the curtains on their ISL season by playing Bengaluru FC at the Tilak Maidan Stadium on Saturday while NorthEast United’s campaign has come to an end.

India vs Sri Lanka Highlights, 3rd T20I Match, Full Cricket Score: Hosts win by six wickets, complete 3-0 sweep

22:57 (IST)

That brings us to the end of our coverage of the T20I series between India and Sri Lanka, with the Men in Blue once again emerging triumphant by a 3-0 margin. Team India have been a different beast altogether in T20Is since the disappointing World Cup campaign last year, winning 12 games in a row now, and their preparations for this year's mega event so far appears to very much be on track.

We have the Test series coming up next between these two teams, with the first match at Mohali being a historic occasion — Virat Kohli's 100th Test appearance. That however, is still a few days away. For now, this is Amit signing off on behalf of my team, bidding you all a good night!

22:48 (IST)

Rohit Sharma, India captain: It’s a factor of everything that comes together. As a team, we play together, and we played very well. Lot of positives came out of this series. We do understand at times we’ve held ourselves back, but it’s important to tell guys not to worry about their positions, tell them they’re here to do their jobs. You come out, bowl two overs, and bowl those overs well and that’s a job done for the team. We want to fill whatever gaps we have. Keeping that in mind, we want to move forward. It’s going to be a big challenge, but it’s always nice to have guys in form rather than not have them in form. Always nice to see that. The way some of these guys have taken their opportunities, they move from strength to strength. Once we reach Mohali, we’re going to start thinking about it.

22:44 (IST)

Shreyas Iyer is the Player of the Match for his unbeaten 73, as well as the Player of the Series for scoring 204 runs in three games!

Shreyas Iyer: All three were special for me, but yesterday’s knock, coming in at a crucial moment and winning the series for the team, that was quite special. You need just one ball to get back in form. I’m really happy with whatever opportunity I’ve got in this series. The wicket was a little two-paced today, compared to yesterday. I also wanted to dominate right from the start. You just have to back your instincts and stay positive. It’s been a rollercoaster journey after my injury. I’m really glad I went through that phase and come out of it and perform at this level.

22:41 (IST)

Dasun Shanaka, Sri Lanka captain: I would like to congratulate Indian team for their wonderful performance throughout this series. Coming to the hand, it is a bit open in the finger. Our batsmen didn’t capitalise in the first six overs so that’s a concern. The pace attack was outstanding throughout. It’s not about the pace, it’s about the control. This is international cricket, we have to adapt, cannot complain about conditions.

22:28 (IST)

Some impressive numbers for Rohit Sharma the captain

22:24 (IST)

After 16.5 overs,India 148/4 ( Shreyas Iyer 73 , Ravindra Jadeja 22)

Kumara starts off with a wide down leg, and follows it up with a similar delivery — this time Jadeja pulling it behind square to collect a boundary and bring the equation down to a single digit. Single off each of the next three deliveries before Shreyas finishes things off with a boundary off the penultimate delivery, remaining not out on 73 to finish unbeaten in this series as India win by six wickets with 19 deliveries to spare. Once again it’s Iyer’s partnership with Jadeja, worth 45 today, that guides India home with ease.

22:22 (IST)

FOUR! Shreyas Iyer finishes off in style with a boundary as India cruise to a six-wicket win with 19 balls to spare to register their 12th win on the trot, as well as their third consecutive T20I series whitewash. IND 148/4

22:15 (IST)

After 16 overs,India 136/4 ( Shreyas Iyer 68 , Ravindra Jadeja 16)

Fernando starts off with a short-of-length ball to Jadeja going down leg, and the all-rounder has no problem dispatching it to the backward square leg boundary. Jaddu follows it up with a pull in front of square, this time collecting a single. Brace to Iyer in the third delivery before he steers a wide yorker towards the wide third man fence, where the fielder running to his left puts in a dive in vain. Single off each of the last two deliveries, leaving India needing just 11 more to win from 24 balls.

22:11 (IST)

After 15 overs,India 123/4 ( Shreyas Iyer 61 , Ravindra Jadeja 10)

Karunaratne returns. Single off each of the first five deliveries before Iyer comes back for a second after flicking towards deep square leg in the final delivery. Seven from the over. India need another 24 to win from 30.

22:07 (IST)

After 14 overs,India 116/4 ( Shreyas Iyer 57 , Ravindra Jadeja 7)

Chameera returns. Jadeja meanwhile, steers a short, wide delivery behind square in the second delivery to collect his first boundary. Nine from the over. India need another 31 to win from the last six overs.

22:02 (IST)

After 13 overs,India 107/4 ( Shreyas Iyer 55 , Ravindra Jadeja 1)

Excellent over from Kumara as he gets rid of Venkatesh Iyer in the second delivery while restricting Shreyas Iyer and new batter Ravindra Jadeja from scoring any boundaries. Five runs and a wicket from the over. India need 40 off 42. Though the required rate is below six, a wicket or two — especially that of Shreyas — could put Sri Lanka in the driver’s seat.

21:58 (IST)

OUT! Venkatesh Iyer doesn't quite make optimal use of the opportunity handed to him today, miscuing a pull to get caught by the substitute fielder Jayawickrama at deep square leg. Kumara strikes again, collecting his second wicket of the innings. IND 103/4

V Iyer c sub (Jayawickrama) b Kumara 5(4)

21:55 (IST)

After 12 overs,India 102/3 ( Shreyas Iyer 52 , Venkatesh Iyer 5)

Shreyas Iyer brings up his third consecutive half-century with a flourish, smashing the ball over long on in the first delivery. Vandersay, meanwhile, isn’t able to bowl more than two deliveries in this over, and Chamika Karunaratne is called on to bowl the remaining deliveries.

21:49 (IST)

SIX! Shreyas Iyer dances down the track and smashes the ball over the wide long on fence to bring up a third consecutive half-century in style! Takes just 29 deliveries to bring up the fifty today, collecting seven fours and a six along the way. IND 99/3

21:48 (IST)

After 11 overs,India 93/3 ( Shreyas Iyer 44 , Venkatesh Iyer 4)

Kumara returns after the drinks interval, and this time uproots the leg stump with a searing yorker to send Hooda back to the dugout. Venkatesh Iyer is the new man in, and he gets off the mark with a pull in front of square off a short delivery. Seven runs and a wicket from Kumara’s second. India need another 54 to win at run-a-ball.

21:46 (IST)

BOWLED! What a delivery from Lahiru Kumara! A yorker aimed at Deepak Hooda's feet that ends up uprooting the leg stump, a dismissal that will no doubt make a certain Lasith Malinga proud. Another threatening partnership has been broken. IND 89/3

Hooda b Kumara 21(16

21:42 (IST)

After 10 overs,India 86/2 ( Shreyas Iyer 42 , Deepak Hooda 20)

SIX! Hooda collects the first maximum of the innings after deciding to go aerial down the ground, clearing the wide long off fence off Vandersay’s bowling. 10 from the over, with India needing another 61 to win at nearly run-a-ball with eight wickets in hand. Time for the players to have a drink. Current partnership's worth 35, one that has brought the Indians back in the driver's seat.

21:40 (IST)

After 9 overs,India 76/2 ( Shreyas Iyer 41 , Deepak Hooda 11)

Expensive over from Karunaratne with 13 coming off it, including a boundary each to Iyer and Hooda, the former moving into the 40s in this over. India need 71 more to win from 66 balls.

21:38 (IST)

After 8 overs,India 63/2 ( Shreyas Iyer 34 , Deepak Hooda 5)

Spin introduced as Jeffrey Vandersay replaces Fernando. Iyer and Hooda rotate the strike between themselves through singles before Iyer drills an overpitched ball down the ground in the sixth delivery to collect his sixth boundary.

21:30 (IST)

After 7 overs,India 55/2 ( Shreyas Iyer 28 , Deepak Hooda 3)

Karunaratne introduced after the powerplay. Samson brings up the fifty for India with a boundary at the start of this over, before nicking the ball to the keeper next ball to depart for 18, bringing Deepak Hooda at the crease. Eight runs and a wicket from the over. India need 92 to win off 78.

21:28 (IST)

Edged... and taken! Samson decides to poke at the ball that's nipping away from him, and ends up getting a thick edge. The ball carries all the way to the keeper at a comfortable height as Karunaratne breaks what was starting to look a dangerous partnership from the visitors' perspective. IND 51/2

Samson c Chandimal b Karunaratne 18(12)

21:23 (IST)

After 6 overs,India 47/1 ( Sanju Samson (W) 14 , Shreyas Iyer 27)

Another boundary for Samson as he steers a wide full toss, poor stuff from the left-arm seamer, past the man at short third man to collect his second boundary of the innings. Iyer tucks a short-of-length ball behind square, placing the ball out of short fine’s reach to make it two boundaries in three balls in this over. 10 from this over. Nice little recovery from the Indians as they reach 47/1 at the end of the powerplay. India need another 100 to win from 84 balls with nine wickets in hand.

21:18 (IST)

After 5 overs,India 37/1 ( Sanju Samson (W) 9 , Shreyas Iyer 22)

Change of ends for Chameera. The seamer restricts the second-wicket pair to singles in the first five deliveries, before Samson decides to break the shackles with a well-timed aerial drive over mid on that fetches him his first boundary of the evening. Nine from the over. Partnership currently worth 31.

21:14 (IST)

After 4 overs,India 28/1 ( Sanju Samson (W) 3 , Shreyas Iyer 20)

Lahiru Kumara replaces Dushmantha Chameera. Iyer, meanwhile, decides to use Kumara’s extra pace to send the ball racing away to the fence, collecting three boundaries in this over along with a brace. 15 from this over, and the Indians are back on their feet in the chase.

21:12 (IST)

After 3 overs,India 13/1 ( Sanju Samson (W) 2 , Shreyas Iyer 6)

Fernando, who had hurt his thumb in his non-bowling hand in the previous over, continues. Iyer and Samson collect a single each before the former collects his first boundary with a lovely cover drive in the penultimate delivery. Six from the over.

21:09 (IST)

After 2 overs,India 7/1 ( Sanju Samson (W) 1 , Shreyas Iyer 1)

Outstanding start from Dushmantha Chameera as he gives away just one from his first over while accounting for Rohit’s wicket. Shreyas Iyer is the new man in at three, and he gets off the mark with a single in the penultimate delivery.

21:05 (IST)

OUT! Dushmantha Chameera dismisses Rohit Sharma yet again! Went for a wild heave down the ground and got no timing, skieing the ball towards mid off with Karunaratne pouching this comfortably. The sixth time Chameera's got rid of Rohit in T20Is. IND 6/1

Rohit c Karunaratne b Chameera 5(9)

21:02 (IST)

After 1 over,India 6/0 ( Sanju Samson (W) 1 , Rohit Sharma (C) 5)

Sanju Samson’s off the mark right away with a single off the first delivery. Rohit then opens his account with a boundary two balls later, steering a yorker through backward square leg. Dropped! Rohit steers the ball towards Shanaka at mid off, his Sri Lankan counterpart making a mess of a low chance that came his way. Six from the first over.

20:58 (IST)

Right then, we're back with the chase with Sanju Samson opening alongside Rohit Sharma in Ishan Kishan's absence. Samson looked impressive in his partnership with Iyer yesterday, and will hope to produce a similar knock today. Binura Fernando to bowl the first over.

20:41 (IST)

After 20 overs,Sri Lanka 146/5 ( Dasun Shanaka (C) 74 , Chamika Karunaratne 12)

Harshal Patel bowls the final over. Shanaka produces a one-handed slog sweep in the second delivery, clearing to square leg fence comfortably to collect his second six of the innings. Collects a quick double in the next delivery, before gloving a short ball over the keeper’s head and away to the fine leg fence for his ninth boundary. Dot to end the innings, as Sri Lanka finish on 146/5, the unbroken sixth-wicket stand worth 86 off just 47 deliveries, with Shanaka remaining unbeaten on 74 off just 37.

20:37 (IST)

After 19 overs,Sri Lanka 134/5 ( Dasun Shanaka (C) 62 , Chamika Karunaratne 12)

4, 4, Wide, 6. Shanaka, clearly on a roll at the moment and middling just about everything, tears Khan apart in this over as he brings up his third T20I half-century, taking just 29 deliveries to get to the milestone. 19 from the over. Sri Lanka will hope to cross 150 in the final over.

20:35 (IST)

After 18 overs,Sri Lanka 115/5 ( Dasun Shanaka (C) 47 , Chamika Karunaratne 10)

Bishnoi is bowling the 18th over, with Jadeja, Venkatesh Iyer and Deepak Hooda’s bowling skills not being utilised at all today. Single off each of the first three deliveries, before Shanaka collects back-to-back fours to bring up the fifty stand with Karunaratne for the sixth wicket. 12 from the over. Another two to go in the innings.

20:29 (IST)

FOUR! Hammered down the ground by Shanaka off Bishnoi, bringing up the fifty partnership with Karunaratne with a boundary. The pair have consumed just 33 balls in the partnership so far with the captain scoring the lion's share of runs. SL 111/5

20:25 (IST)

After 17 overs,Sri Lanka 103/5 ( Dasun Shanaka (C) 37 , Chamika Karunaratne 8)

Siraj returns. Shanaka, meanwhile, tees off in this over and appears to have picked up from where he left off yesterday, smashing two boundaries in three balls — through the point and cover regions respectively. And he’s racing between the wickets when not scoring boundaries, collecting back-to-back doubles in the last two balls. 13 from the over. Sri Lanka are past the 100-mark in this over.

20:19 (IST)

After 16 overs,Sri Lanka 90/5 ( Dasun Shanaka (C) 25 , Chamika Karunaratne 7)

Shanaka gets a thick top edge while looking to pull a short ball from Patel, and gets a lucky escape in the end as the ball lands between three fielders at mid on. He follows it up with a lovely flick behind square off a yorker-length ball from Patel. Four byes added two balls later after Samson fails to get his gloves to a steep bouncer from Patel. 12 from the over. Another four to go in the Sri Lankan innings.

20:14 (IST)

After 15 overs,Sri Lanka 78/5 ( Dasun Shanaka (C) 19 , Chamika Karunaratne 5)

Bishnoi returns and keeps it tidy, with just four coming off his third as Shanaka and Karunaratne having to content themselves with singles for now. The Lankans will hope for a late assault from the captain’s bat, not too different from the one witnessed in yesterday’s game as they added 80 in the last five.

20:10 (IST)

After 14 overs,Sri Lanka 74/5 ( Dasun Shanaka (C) 17 , Chamika Karunaratne 4)

Kuldeep continues from the other end. 10 from the over, including four leg byes in the third delivery and a couple of doubles to Shanaka, who’s batting on 17 at the end of this over.

20:07 (IST)

After 13 overs,Sri Lanka 64/5 ( Dasun Shanaka (C) 12 , Chamika Karunaratne 3)

Harshal Patel returns to the attack, and he gets the breakthrough right away as Chandimal departs for 25, holing out to Venkatesh at backward point. Chamika Karunaratne is the new man in, and he gets off the mark right away with a brace. Four runs and a wicket from the over.

20:04 (IST)

OUT! Patel strikes after being brought back as he removes Chandimal for 25. The Sri Lankan No 4 cuts the ball towards backward point, where Venkatesh Iyer crouches low and collects the catch safely in the end, though he also ends up copping a painful blow on the unmentionables after the ball had deflected off his arm and hit him below the abdomen. Patel breaks the stand that was starting to look dangerous from the Indian perspective. SL 60/5

Chandimal c V Iyer b Patel 25(27)

19:59 (IST)

After 12 overs,Sri Lanka 60/4 ( Dinesh Chandimal (W) 25 , Dasun Shanaka (C) 11)

Single off each of the first two deliveries before Chandimal collects his second boundary with a solid punch through the cover region in the fourth ball. Shreyas Iyer puts in a dive in front of the boundary, but his foot ends up touching the advertising cushion just when he puts in a slide. Kuldeep though, beats him with drift in the next delivery. Chandimal keeps the strike with a single off the last delivery.

19:51 (IST)

After 10 overs,Sri Lanka 43/4 ( Dinesh Chandimal (W) 13 , Dasun Shanaka (C) 7)

Kuldeep continues. Excellent effort by Rohit to give the ball a chase all the way to fine leg after a sweep by Chandimal at the start of the over. Single off the fourth and fifth deliveries before a misfield by Siraj at deep backward square leg results in the Sri Lankans collecting only their second boundary of the day so far, the boundary going into skipper Shanaka's account. Nine from the over. Time for there players to have a drink now.

After 9 overs,Sri Lanka 34/4 ( Dinesh Chandimal (W) 9 , Dasun Shanaka (C) 2)

Spin from both ends now as Ravi Bishnoi replaces Harshal Patel. And the wrist spinner makes good use of the googly to get rid of Liyanage as Sri Lanka lose their fourth wicket. Skipper Dasun Shanaka joins Chandimal at the crease, and it’s up to the two senior players to guide the team to safety from here.

19:42 (IST)

BOWLED! Bishnoi uses the googly to good effect once again, breaching Liyanage's defence and leaving the stumps in a disarray to break the budding fourth-wicket stand. SL 29/4

19:40 (IST)

After 8 overs,Sri Lanka 26/3 ( Janith Liyanage 7 , Dinesh Chandimal (W) 7)

Spin finally introduced as Kuldeep Yadav replaces Avesh Khan. He’s off to a tidy start, with just two coming from his first over. With the run rate still hovering marginally above the three-run mark, the Lankans will need a big over if they are to revive their innings.

19:39 (IST)

After 7 overs,Sri Lanka 24/3 ( Janith Liyanage 6 , Dinesh Chandimal (W) 6)

First bowling change, with Harshal Patel replacing Siraj in the attack. Six from the over, including a wide in the fourth delivery. Chandimal and Liyanage are focused on keeping the scoreboard ticking through singles at the moment.

Three singles and a leg bye added in this over as Sri Lanka crawl to 18/3 at the end of the powerplay, going at just three-an-over. Has been a horror start so far for Dasun Shanaka’s side in their quest to collect a consolation win today.

India vs Sri Lanka Live Score, 3rd T20I in Dharamsala: Shreyas Iyer remains unbeaten on 73, forging another valuable unbroken partnership with Ravindra Jadeja (22 not out) as India pull off another comfortable victory to complete a third consecutive 3-0 sweep as well as their 12th T20I win on the trot.

The Men in Blue had entered the second T20I as the strong favourites after a 62-run win in the opening game in Lucknow, and skipper Rohit this time opted to field. Though they were off to a positive start after getting rid of Rohit cheaply, with Ishan Kishan following him soon after, the game slipped out of their hands once Shreyas Iyer (74 not out) was able to steady the hosts in the middle overs while forging a valuable stand with Sanju Samson (39). Ravindra Jadeja walked in after Samson's dismissal and teed off right away, his 18-ball 45 not out helping finish things off for the hosts with 17 balls to spare.

Highlights India vs Sri Lanka, 2nd T20I Match, Full Cricket Score: Men in Blue clinch series with comprehensive seven-wicket win

22:49 (IST)

That brings us to the end of our coverage of the second T20I between India and Sri Lanka, with the Men in Blue yet another series on home soil! Rohit Sharma and Co will hope to make it 12 wins in a row tomorrow in the third and final game of the series while Sri Lanka will look for a consolation win. For now, this is Amit Banerjee signing off, wishing you all a good night!

22:47 (IST)

Shreyas Iyer is the Player of the Match for his unbeaten 74

Shreyas: That's my go-to movement. I'm able to sight the ball pretty well after that. The bowler was smarter though, he bowled a yorker and it swung, and I was lucky to survive. When I saw the recap, I was shocked literally, and it's something I want to forget. It was really important for me to time the ball in that situation. We saw Ishan, he was charging on really well but unfortunately got out. I wasn't really thinking about that. Was just thinking about the present situation and being honest about ourselves. Be in the present and not think much about the opposition.

22:45 (IST)

Rohit Sharma, India captain: It was something pleasing for us to see. That has been happening consistently now for a period of time which is good to see, which is the middle order stepping up and finishing games. (On leaking too many runs in the death overs) Don’t want to be too harsh on the bowlers. These days can happen. We restricted them really well in the first 15 overs. Obviously something for us to understand how to bowl at the backend of the innings. Lot of these guys are talented. They just need an opportunity to go out and express themselves. (Shreyas and Jadeja) To finish the way they did in the end was really good. The kind of situation we are living in at the moment, we have to look after everyone, ensure everyone’s fresh physically and mentally. If we need to rotate and change, we'll do it.

22:40 (IST)

Dasun Shanaka, Sri Lanka captain: It started really well, but we should have done better in the powerplay. Another wicket in the powerplay would have been better for us. We had a plan before coming into the game. I think he (Kumara) could have bowled another over in the powerplay. The game was set for me in that period. The wicket was superb today, and I played to my strength. It’s another series loss, but there are a lot of positives.

22:27 (IST)

After 17.1 overs,India 186/3 ( Shreyas Iyer 74 , Ravindra Jadeja 45)

FOUR! Jadeja finishes off in style with a boundary down the ground as Team India clinch yet another series and register their 11th consecutive victory in T20Is! This is as comprehensive a win as it can get, with Iyer and Jadeja guiding them home with seven wickets and 17 balls to spare!

22:23 (IST)

After 17 overs,India 182/3 ( Shreyas Iyer 74 , Ravindra Jadeja 41)

Fernando keeps things tight early on in his final over, conceding three singles from the first four deliveries that also brings up the fifty stand for the fourth wicket, before Iyer plays a deft late cut to guide the ball past short third man for a boundary. India are left with just two to win at the end of this over.

22:19 (IST)

After 16 overs,India 175/3 ( Shreyas Iyer 69 , Ravindra Jadeja 39)

Some poor fielding by Asalanka near the long on region costs Sri Lanka crucial runs, as Jadeja follows up a brace in the first ball with a six. The all-rounder then collects a hat-trick of boundaries to snuff out any remaining hopes of salvaging the series for the visitors. 22 from the over. India need just 9 to win from 4 overs.

22:13 (IST)

After 15 overs,India 153/3 ( Shreyas Iyer 69 , Ravindra Jadeja 18)

Fernando also returns, replacing Kumara after the latter went for 23 in his previous over. Poor start for the seamer as he concedes a boundary to Jadeja along with a no ball. Jadeja then drills the ball down the ground in the free hit to make it back-to-back fours. Fernando attempts a short ball down leg, and ends up bowling a wide. Jadeja and Iyer then keep the scoreboard ticking with the ones and twos as 16 are added to the Indian total in this over. India need just 32 more to win from 30 balls with seven wickets in hand.

22:05 (IST)

After 14 overs,India 136/3 ( Shreyas Iyer 66 , Ravindra Jadeja 6)

Karunaratne returns. Jadeja, meanwhile, is off the mark with a boundary first ball with a drive past extra cover. Eight from the over. India need another 48 in the last six overs.

22:03 (IST)

After 13 overs,India 128/3 ( Shreyas Iyer 64 , )

FOUR! The ball races away to the long leg region after an inside edge off Samson’s bat, with Fernando fumbling while putting in a slide in front of the boundary rope. Samson then slaps a short-of-length ball down the ground for a flat six, his first shot of confidence this evening. An under pressure Kumara then concedes a wide off the third. Samson’s equally impressive in his inside out slog over cover in the next delivery, comfortably clearing the fence for his second six of the over. Samson swings his arms again in the penultimate delivery, once again clearing the straight boundary and this time looking even more at ease. OUT! Fernando grabs a one-handed stunner in the last ball after a thick bottom edge off Samson’s bat to bring the eventful third-wicket stand to an end. India need another 56 off 42 with seven wickets in hand.

22:00 (IST)

OUT! Binura Fernando grabs a one-handed stunner at short third man! Samson got a thick edge off the toe end off a full, wide delivery from Kumara, and Fernando had a fraction of a second to make the leap and prevent this from going for a boundary. End of a fine cameo from Samson and an game-changing partnership. IND 128/3

Samson c Fernando b Kumara 39(25)

21:53 (IST)

After 12 overs,India 105/2 ( Shreyas Iyer 64 , Sanju Samson 17)

Iyer brings up another milestone with a six, this time going for an uppercut off a short, wide delivery from opposition skipper Shanaka, the ball landing on the cushion at the backward point boundary with the fifty partnership coming up in the process. Iyer punches a full toss down the ground in the last ball, coming back for a second. 14 from the over. India need another 79 to win from 48 balls.

21:50 (IST)

SIX! Shreyas Iyer brings up another milestone with a six, this time the fifty partnership with Sanju Samson for the third wicket. IND 97/2

21:49 (IST)

After 11 overs,India 91/2 ( Shreyas Iyer 54 , Sanju Samson 16)

Karunaratne continues after the drinks break. 11 from his second over of the innings, including a maximum to Iyer in the fifth ball as he brings up a second consecutive half-century — and his fifth overall in T20Is — in style.

21:48 (IST)

SIX! Shreyas Iyer brings up his second consecutive half-century — and his fifth overall in T20Is — with a slap down the ground, collecting a maximum in the process. IND 90/2

21:41 (IST)

After 10 overs,India 80/2 ( Shreyas Iyer 45 , Sanju Samson 14)

DROPPED! Samson goes aerial in his pull behind square, with the fielder making a mess of a low chance near the boundary, allowing the batter to collect a four instead. Six collected off the remaining five balls, as India reach 80/2 at the halfway stage in the chase, needing another 104 to win from 60 balls with eight wickets in hand.

21:38 (IST)

After 9 overs,India 70/2 ( Shreyas Iyer 43 , Sanju Samson 6)

Shreyas Iyer smashes back-to-back sixes off Jayawickrama in the left-arm spinner’s second over, moving into the 40s while alleviating some of the pressure that was starting to build due to the lack of boundaries. 14 from the over.

21:34 (IST)

After 8 overs,India 56/2 ( Shreyas Iyer 30 , Sanju Samson 5)

Chamika Karunaratne is introduced from the other end, and does well to deny Iyer and Samson the boundaries. Run rate’s starting to creep up now, and the current pair will have to step up if they are to manage the pressure. Five from the over.

21:27 (IST)

After 7 overs,India 51/2 ( Shreyas Iyer 28 , Sanju Samson 2)

Spin introduced after the powerplay as Praveen Jayawickrama replaces Binura Fernando. Iyer and Samson deal in the ones and twos in this over, focusing on rotating the strike as India go past fifty in this over. Five off Jayawickrama’s first over.

21:23 (IST)

After 6 overs,India 46/2 ( Shreyas Iyer 24 , Sanju Samson 1)

Kishan departs for 16 at the start of the over as Kumara breaks what was turning out to be a promising stand between him and Iyer. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, waste a review two balls after an unsuccessful LBW appeal after new batter Samson gets a thick inside edge that is later confirmed on UltraEdge. Single off each of the last two balls. India are four short of the fifty-mark at the end of the powerplay.

21:18 (IST)

OUT! Tame end to the innings for Kishan as he chips the ball straight to Shanaka at mid on. Kishan might have lost his focus after the blow to his helmet in the previous over. End of what was turning out to be a promising stand. IND 44/2

Kishan c Shanaka b Kumara 16

21:17 (IST)

After 5 overs,India 44/1 ( Ishan Kishan (W) 16 , Shreyas Iyer 23)

Change of ends for Fernando. Single off each of the first two balls, before Iyer accelerates with a hat-trick of boundaries — pulling the first two through mid on and midwicket, before driving a full toss past mid off. 14 from the fifth over. Decent partnership so far between Kishan and Shreyas for the second wicket.

21:13 (IST)

After 4 overs,India 30/1 ( Ishan Kishan (W) 15 , Shreyas Iyer 10)

Lahiru Kumara replaces Binura Fernando in this over. OUCH! Kishan is struck on the helmet by a 146 mph bouncer in the second delivery, the bowler walking up to the keeper-batter to check if he’s fine, and the physio stepping out to the field to have a look. Iyer, meanwhile, steers a short, wide delivery past the man at slip in the fourth delivery to collect his second boundary. Seven from the over.

21:13 (IST)

After 3 overs,India 23/1 ( Ishan Kishan (W) 14 , Shreyas Iyer 5)

Iyer’s lucky to not have been bowled by Chameera in this over, as an outswinging yorker from the seamer n the third delivery narrowly misses the off pole. Iyer a couple of steps to his left trying to make room, and the ball was out of his reach as a result. Tidy over from Chameera with just five coming off it.

21:03 (IST)

After 2 overs,India 19/1 ( Ishan Kishan (W) 12 , Shreyas Iyer 4)

Binura Fernando, replacing Jeffrey Vandersay in today’s game, bowls the second over. Another nine runs added to the Indian total, with Kishan and new batter Shreyas Iyer collecting a boundary each.

21:01 (IST)

After 1 over,India 9/1 ( Ishan Kishan (W) 7 , )

Rohit gets off the mark right away with a single, while Kishan collects a brace off the second ball. Kishan then collects the first boundary of the innings by jamming his bat down to a wide yorker, steering the ball through backward point. Chameera angles the ball into the batter in the fourth, collecting a dot as Kishan gets an inside edge. Wide down the leg side off the fifth, followed by a single, before Rohit departs in the final delivery after chopping the ball onto his stumps. Nine runs and a wicket from the first over.

20:56 (IST)

Rohit b Chameera 1

20:51 (IST)

20:41 (IST)

After 20 overs,Sri Lanka 183/5 ( Dasun Shanaka (C) 47 , Chamika Karunaratne 0)

Chamika Karunaratne joins Shanaka at the crease, with Harshal Patel bowling the final over. Patel starts off with a wide, followed by four leg byes as the ball deflects towards third man off Shanaka’s shoe. The SL skipper dashes back for a second in the second delivery, before heaving an off-cutter over backward square leg to collect a boundary next ball. Patel successfully appeals for leg-before in the fourth, with Shanaka overturning the decision after the ball is showing to be missing leg. Shanaka then tonks Patel for back-to-back sixes to finish the innings on a high, remaining unbeaten on 47 as Sri Lanka set India 184 to win after being asked to bat.

20:33 (IST)

After 19 overs,Sri Lanka 160/5 ( Dasun Shanaka (C) 29 , Chamika Karunaratne 0)

SIX! Clobbered over long on by Shanaka, the third maximum of the innings for the Sri Lankan skipper! After conceding 16 in the first five deliveries, Bhuvi traps Nissanka leg-before to end his spell with a wicket — his first of the evening. One more over to go after this.

20:32 (IST)

OUT! Bhuvneshwar grabs his first wicket off his final delivery of the innings, trapping Nissanka leg-before with a yorker. Nissanka misses while attempting a reverse lap, and it's an easy enough decision for the umpire. SL 160/5

Skipper Dasun Shanaka is the new bater at the crease. Five runs and a wicket from the over with another five overs to go in the innings.

India vs Sri Lanka Live Score, 2nd T20I in Dharamsala: Fernando keeps things tight early on in his final over, conceding three singles from the first four deliveries that also brings up the fifty stand for the fourth wicket, before Iyer plays a deft late cut to guide the ball past short third man for a boundary. India are left with just two to win at the end of this over.

Preview: India will look to wrap the three-match T20I series on Saturday with a win over Sri Lanka in the second match at Dharamshala. The Rohit Sharma-led side won the first match by 62 runs.

India have been on a 10-match winning streak and a victory on Saturday will complete a second T20I series win for the side in as many weeks. It has been a terrific turnaround for Men in Blue who failed to dazzle at the 2021 T20 World Cup just a few months ago, making an early exit from the mega event.

Since then India's focus has been on plugging the glaring holes in the side and the recent results have been proof that the team is moving in the right direction. Suryakumar Yadav and Venkatesh Iyer excelled in their middle-order batter roles during the West Indies T20I series. Ravi Bishnoi made an impressive foray into international cricket besides players like Harshal Patel and Deepak Chahar impressing with their pace bowling.

The Sri Lanka series is also another opportunity for India to improve their squad before the 2022 T20 World Cup. In the first T20I, Ishan Kishan scored a quick-fire 89 off 56 after having a subdued performance against West Indies and that's great news for Team India. They will hope for another cracking performance from the opener.

Shreyas Iyer scored 57 not out from No 3 in first T20I and that innings has strengthened his case. All-rounder Deepak Hooda didn't get to bat in the first match and returned with figures of 0/24 from his three overs. He will look to better his performance in the second match as he aims to become an India regular. Sanju Samson didn't get a chance to bat in the first match and he will hope for some time in the middle with the bat as India look to finalise their core for the upcoming World Cup.

Sri Lanka on the other hand will have to play their best to stop India's winning steak. They have not been at their best in the absence of frontline spinners Maheesh Theekshana and Wanindu Hasaranga.

LIVE Cricket Score, New Zealand vs South Africa, 2nd Test Day 2 at Christchurch

Day 1 report: A bold call by South Africa to bat first in the second Test against New Zealand paid dividends Friday with the tourists 238 for three, including a maiden century to Sarel Erwee, at stumps on day one.

Erwee, in his second Test, headlined the scoreboard with 108, with 42 from Aiden Markram and 41 from Dean Elgar.

Dean Elgar and Tom Latham, captain of South Africa and New Zealand respectively, pose with the winner's trophy. AFP

Not out were Temba Bavuma on 22 and Rassie van der Dussen on 13.

"We're probably on top at the moment," said Erwee, who at 32 is a late arrival in the Test arena, and started cautiously before opening up as a fine strokemaker with 14 fours from the 221 deliveries he faced.

"To sit here today with a Test hundred behind my name is extremely special.

"It's a very special day I must say. Probably 24 months ago I probably didn't think I'd be in a position to even be close to a South African Test squad."

He shared in partnerships of 111 with Elgar and 88 with Markram but when Markram was dismissed Erwee followed three balls later.

The Proteas, trounced in the first Test and needing to win to save the series, surprised when they won the toss and elected to bat at Hagley Oval, where the customary green-tinged wicket favours seamers on the opening day.

Elgar, the first captain to win the toss and not bowl in the 11-Test history at the Oval, justified his decision by saying he wanted his batters to "front up" after they folded for innings of 95 and 111 in the first Test.

He managed scores of one and nought, and Erwee 10 and nought in that Test, and the pair responded positively in the second which began with Elgar sending the first ball of the day to the boundary.

"With our backs against the wall we had to show up," added Erwee who described the team performance as "uplifting".

The surface was not as green as in the first Test and new ball bowlers Tim Southee and Matt Henry could not get the same movement through the air and off the surface.

It saw Elgar and Elwee post South Africa's first century opening stand in 16 innings, and first away from home in a decade.

While conditions were favourable for batting, there was some assistance for the bowlers, with Southee getting one delivery to swing sharply into Elgar then nip away to take the off-stump.

Other chances created by the bowlers tended to find an edge and fall short of the slip cordon until a brief period after tea.

Markram looked set on 42 when he was lulled into a drive by Neil Wagner and nicked the off-cutter to Daryl Mitchell at first slip.

In the following over, Erwee's attempt to drive Henry was edged to wicketkeeper Tom Blundell.

New Zealand had 10 overs with the new ball with several unsuccessful appeals for lbw, and Rassie van der Dussen was dropped on seven.
